| At Natural Performance it is our goal to produce the finest sports nutrition products using only whole grains, natural and organic ingredients and without using any supplements or additives. We make performance food for the vast majority of athletes who are seeking to improve both their health and performance -- and parents looking for a natural alternative to the synthetic environment of sports nutrition. Our products will be available fresh in the refrigerated section of your market, without preservatives or pasteurization. We offer two products designed to help athletes maintain balanced nutrition, Replenish Glycogen Replenishment Bars and ReFuel Whey Protein Bars. Our Replenish Glycogen Replenishment Bars and ReFuel Whey Protein Bars address a gap in most athletes' nutrition, the initial hours after training or competition. Studies show that in this initial hour after exercise, glycogen re-synthesis is at an elevated level and athletes that consume carbohydrates in this period recover glycogen stores more completely. Our Replenish Glycogen Replenishment Bars and ReFuel Whey Protein Bars offer a healthy, portable, meal to help re-fill in this gap. These bars contain a balance of simple and complex carbohydrates to help athletes replenish muscle glycogen following training or competition. Our Sports Nutrition section is an interactive center for nutrition information. We have collected links to studies and information on a variety of topics relating to sports nutrition. We invite you to add additional links as well. There are also calculators to help plan daily protein, fat and carbohydrate intakes, and an interactive web log where you can share ideas or ask questions. A note on glycogen replacement: For athletes, young and old, to perform at their best they require fuel for their muscles. The main source of this fuel is called glycogen. Glycogen is derived in the body from carbohydrates [sugars and starches]. During exercise the body uses its store of muscular glycogen to power the athlete. Once this stored glycogen becomes depleted, the performance of the athlete falls off as the body utilizes other less efficient forms of stored energy.
Many experts agree that the rate the body replenishes glycogen is higher in the first hour after exercise. Adding carbohydrates in this initial hour will improve recovery and lock in strength gains in athletes that have had vigorous exercise. Having a snack with a balance of nutrients will also aid in muscle regeneration and keep athletes healthy. |
